The lively town of Zwiesel is the centre of the Zwiesel area and, with more than 10,000 inhabitants, one of the larger towns in the Bavarian Forest. Zwiesel has been the centre of glass production and finishing in the region since 1421. The town is home to nearly 20 workshops, galleries and glassworks.

There are opportunities for guests to watch glassmakers at work in many of the glass companies. You can also learn about the art of brewing beer at the brewery.
National Park
The resort lies in a broad valley where the Großer and Kleiner Regen rivers join. It is surrounded by the Bavarian Forest mountains of Falkenstein, Rachel and Hennenkobel. Around Zwiesel there is a unique and varied walking area.
There are many different paths: along the river, up the Falkenstein, Arber or Rachel mountains, through the villages or – a special treat – a tour of the forest moors. This goes through the middle of the National Park, past meadows and high moors.
As well as appealing to nature and glass lovers, Zwiesel also has a lot to offer families with children.
Child Friendly Resort
More than 10 accommodation providers have the coveted bear award for their family friendliness, mainly farms in the surrounding small villages. They offer lots of space, play barns and much more.
The town itself was awarded 3 bears for its family friendliness. As well as playgrounds and a special programme for children, the swimming pool with outdoor pool, children’s facilities and the big beach volley ball pitch is a particular attraction for families. In the centre of the town, there is the Museum of the Forest (Waldmuseum).
Eldorado for Cross Country Skiers
Zwiesel is also popular with cross country skiers. Since 1970 the town has been the host for World Cup alpine skiing races on the Arber mountain. Around the town there is an extensive network of cross country trails of varying length and degrees of difficulty. A free ski bus links Zwiesel with the trails and the Arber.
The snow sure trails of the Kaisersteig-Loipen in Rabenstein are particularly challenging. And Zwiesel also lies on the 180 kilometre Bayerwaldloipe, through the scenery of the Bavarian Forest.
